An unexpected power outage interrupted the rehearsal of the Colombian group Morat on the stage of the Quinta Vergara, home of the prestigious Viña del Mar Festival. However, in case the electricity does not return before nightfall, President Gabriel Boric and his team have already discussed emergency measures, including the possible cancellation of key events.
Interior Minister Carolina Tohá reported at a press conference that the restoration of power is expected in the coming hours. Nevertheless, concern has arisen among organizers due to a massive blackout that began around 3:16 PM, extending from Arica and Parinacota to Los Lagos, leaving Viña del Mar without power.
Uncertainty is growing, and organizers are working against the clock to ensure the festival goes on without major complications. The pressure is increasing, as this is one of the most anticipated events of the year in Chile with a large international audience.
If power is not restored soon, traffic chaos could complicate the arrival of attendees, causing delays and possible disturbances. Additionally, there is a risk that a large part of the country will not be able to watch the televised transmission of the festival scheduled to start at 9:15 PM through Mega.
Although the venue has its own electric generators that prevented a total interruption, the situation creates uncertainty regarding the logistics of the event. The primary concern of the organizers is public access, as the lack of electricity has affected traffic around the venue.
In case the power supply does not return in time, the cancellation of key events is being considered, which increases uncertainty regarding the festival's execution. The start of the third night of the Viña del Mar Festival is scheduled for 9:15 PM, but the current situation generates anxiety among organizers and spectators.
